The World Bank has once again ranked Mauritius as 1st in Africa in their 2020 Ease of Doing Business Report. This report analyses multiple business regulations and their enforcement across 190 countries and Mauritius has consistently improved their global ranking over the last 4 years. They ranked 49th place in 2017 and leaped to 25th place in 2018. The islands ranking once again improved to 20th place in 2019 and now 13th place in 2020.
This regular growth is credited to multiple reforms and a coherency between the public and private sector. For instance, the government is actively adopting technology to improve submission and processing systems for organizations. The National Electronic Licensing System is an example of such advancement, the system, already implemented, allows the submission of business licenses through electronic means.
Mauritius is internationally renowned as an excellent financial centre that provides an investment friendly environment conducive to business growth. Furthermore, Mauritius is considered among the most business-friendly jurisdictions alongside countries such as Hong Kong and Singapore. The islands reforms have allowed Mauritius to remain competitive, attractive and transparent. Overall, their rapid improvement on a global scale is a clear indication of a stable and profitable environment, providing potential investors a safe environment for current and future investment.
